As always, the lovely aroma of bonito hits me the moment I open the bag. When our dog reaches the next stage we will probably need a different formulation, but for now this is what we are sticking with.

We had tried various senior foods. Our regular groomer recommended SHOGUN. Since we switched, there have been no leftovers and no signs of difficulty eating. She actually waits for mealtimes now.

I had been looking for a food without that strange oily smell, and oil-free options are surprisingly rare. SHOGUN was the first one my senior dog accepted right away. The food itself smells clean. I plan to continue and monitor how his condition develops.

Our previous dog lived to seventeen on this kind of food. We have kept SHOGUN in the rotation for the new one from puppyhood. No oil coating, no wheat flour. The price is on the higher side, but it is far less than the vet bills cheaper food has cost us in the past.

I picked this up in a store while looking for a gluten-free option. The food itself smells good and our dog took to it quickly. Over a few weeks the tear staining around the eyes has clearly reduced.

She is eight and still very food-driven, so a weight-conscious meal is a help. I add a bit of steamed vegetables and a small portion of meat on top. She doesn't eat much of this on its own, but happily clears the bowl with the toppings. The mineral profile in the grains is part of why I picked it.

I usually buy the adult formula but my Pekingese was getting a little round, so I tried the lighter version. The smell is gentler than the adult one but the kibble size and the no-oil-coating finish are the same. I have been mixing the two and she eats every bowl with no problem.

Four or five years in and we still buy this. No oily coating, that distinctive bonito aroma, and the flat kibble shape that makes it easy for our older dog to eat. Quietly reliable.

We have a miniature Schnauzer and a Toy Poodle. The discolouration around their mouths and the tear stains have visibly improved at the three-month mark. I would have been sceptical without seeing it on our own dogs.

Our two-year-old Shiba has multiple food allergies and there are very few foods he can tolerate. SHOGUN was one of them. He likes it too, so the bowl empties fast.
